Scope and Purpose of Position

Provides technical leadership for the strategy, design and development of data assets supporting organizational priorities and projects to achieve optimal business operations through the application of modern data architectures, data platforms and tools. This includes data organization, access, replication, modeling, reverse engineering, building data dictionaries, data quality assessment, data quality improvement strategies, master data management, data security, data de-identification, data warehousing, etc. in relation to said projects to achieve business goals and data needs.

Essential Functions

Architects scalable, highly available solutions

Oversees adherence to architecture and strategy in design processes

Maps and Models data flows and data domains for new and existing solutions

Defines enterprise models, data quality standards/KPIs, optimal access patterns, physical structures and normalization

Defines best practices for data stores, replication, cleansing, deduplication and analytics

Engages with external vendors to evaluate products and lead proof of concept development

Perform system/database analysis, strategic planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of database management systems utilizing mainframe technologies including, Z/VSE, VSAM, Easytrieve , and client server
technologies including, DB2 UDB, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL and Oracle

Leads projects requiring multidisciplinary approaches and collaboration with cross functional teams and business users

Performs cross-training and facilitates information sharing across the organization

Recommends and establishes new software development, testing and documentation standards as it pertains to data processes

Monitors and recommends improvements in existing data assets, management processes and KPIs

Monitors and ensures compliance of architectural and development standards

Identifies and recommends new technologies, architectures, processes and tools to increase the development team's efficiency and productivity, lower application maintenance costs and maximize quality and performance

Works with the business and development management to clarify business requirements and provide effective technical designs aligning with industry best practices

Works with multiple products and technologies at all tiers of the application architecture to guide the design and implementation of innovative, scalable and robust solutions

Works with cross-functional teams to assess current state weaknesses and performance impacts and recommends design changes to existing platform

Education & Experience

Preferred bachelor's degree in computer science or related field or equivalent combination or experience and education

Ten (10+) years data experience with relational, mapping, ETL/ELT, modeling and data cleansing technologies

Three (3+) years of experience with Big data and non-relational databases and data science solutions desired

Strong background in data organization for microservices, responsive web applications and DevOps environments

Proven experience delivering highly available high performance solutions

Deep knowledge of design patterns and OO design principles

Working within Scrum or agile development as well as waterfall environments

Mentoring, coaching and leading other technical team members

Architects solutions across multiple hardware/software computing environments and system components

Expertise in developing and architecting solutions in a collaborative environment, as well as significant experience in multiple hardware/software computing environments and system components


Extensive oral and written communication skills

Project organization, coordination and technical writing skills are required

Ability to present project status, risks and project timelines with dependencies

Add, subtract, multiply, divide, compute rates, rations and percentages

Ability to identify, research and resolve technical problems

Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
