Job Description
We are excited to search and bring on a new team member in our Application Development department and we are currently recruiting for a Programmer Analyst- MS SQL Database Developer to join our team.
The Programmer Analyst- MS SQL Database Developer is responsible for application development and support activity for systems outside of the PeopleSoft ERP application suite with a specific focus on MS SQL Database development with a lesser emphasis on C# development. Assignments involve delivery of all components of the Systems Development Life Cycle with minimal direction for multiple departments in the company. Systems can include the inter-relation of functions between business areas including interfaces to related internal or external applications.
Summary of Essential Database Related Duties:
  • Building databases and validating their stability and efficiency
  • Creating program views, functions, and stored procedures
  • Writing optimized SQL queries for integration with other applications
  • Designing database tables and dictionaries
  • Developing scripts, procedures, and triggers for application development
  • SSRS, SSIS, and SSAS (multi-dimensional and tabular cubes) development
Summary of Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Implement assignments accurately and on time involving multiple business areas. This encompasses several skills in Information Systems including user interaction, problem solving, systems analysis, preparing technical/functional specifications and estimates, developing alternatives and recommending solutions to business requirements relating to purchased software, newly developed systems or maintenance of existing systems.
  • Assignments may include gathering facts, analyzing data, and outlining alternatives for satisfying requirements including time, cost, and requirements for computing resources. Also recommends course of action. Development of assignment plans including approach, review the proposed solution with peers for concurrence, time estimate and schedule. Monitor progress, prioritize tasks, obtain appropriate task authorizations, and prepare progress reports.
  • To maintain a high degree of knowledge and understanding of basic and advanced System Development skills in the following areas to ensure the effective implementation of systems:
  • Program logic development.
  • Problem solving. o Application security.
  • Programming languages, query tools, report writers.
  • Data modeling.
  • Development on PC, mid-range, WEB, or client server technology
  • File structures (hierarchical, sequential, relational, and other).
  • Testing plans for development of a unit, system integration, and parallel testing phases.
  • Testing tools available within the selected development technology.
  • Coordinate the application of third-party package upgrades and fixes.
  • May assist with establishing Systems Development practices and procedures.
  • Carry out I/S internal control policies and procedures required by Sarbanes Oxley.
  • May be responsible for maintaining security components related to applications supported by the department.
  • Exercise effective judgment in the application of the Systems Development Life Cycle by selecting the steps applicable to the delivery of the business requirement ensuring an effective design and quality results.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the business functions within the assigned areas such as Operational Reporting, Financial and/or HR Systems, Point of Sale Processing including data collection and Business Intelligence Reporting to ensure a clear understanding of the workflow and business requirements.
  • Keep supervisor and other concerned individuals informed of assignment status by initiating face-to-face communication and written status reports.
Requirements & Qualifications:
  • Two-Four-year degree in related field required
  • 7 -10 years or more years of Application Development experience required.
  • Business systems knowledge in one or more of these areas including retail, accounting, human resources/payroll, and point of sale required.
  • Significant application development on PC, mid-range, WEB, or client server platforms required.
  • Appropriate training in Systems Development Life Cycle required Project Management skills desired.
  • Exposure to Sarbanes Oxley controls covering software life cycle management is desired.
Computer Skills Required:
  • MS Office suite, MS Visual Studio, C# and .NET Framework Development, Web Development, Web Services, Oracle DB integration, Azure DevOps
  • Knowledge of additional data structures such as XML and JSON and experience with Power BI or other BI reporting tools, familiarity with low code/no code solutions such as Power Apps and Power Automate
