5 Tips for Getting Unstuck from a Rut

Every so often, we find ourselves doing the same things repeatedly. These are usually tasks that we were once excited about, but now dread because it’s been an ongoing routine. It isn’t always a bad thing, but sometimes it can lead to a rut where we feel stuck and don’t know how to break out of it. 

 

On the bright side, recognizing you are stuck in a rut is the first step to turning a new page. Here are a few things you can do to feel more fulfilled and less stuck.

 

Take a step back.

 

Being caught up in the same routine can make you lose sight of your original purpose. Take a day or two to step back from everything to recharge your mental and emotional batteries. Give yourself a couple of days to focus on your original intentions. Remember, that you can always adjust your deadlines and goals to be more attainable. Any growth is positive growth! 

 

Ask for help.

 

Phone a friend or co-worker and ask them for advice. Input from a different perspective is always refreshing and can be insightful. Chances are, your colleague has been in the same position as you, and has gotten out of it one way or another. Motivate each other and reap the lasting benefits of a team dynamic. 

 

Cut the procrastination.

 

It can be difficult at times, but try to take on the tasks you’ve been avoiding for the past week. Addressing the issue that is holding you back and checking it off your to-do list will make you feel a great sense of relief. Not to mention, you will feel even more inspired to take on the next challenge. Get out of your comfort zone, it can go a long way. 

 

Change your mindset.

 

If you are feeling lackluster and lack excitement at work, flip the switch! Changing your mindset can help you feel more satisfied with your work. Oftentimes, the only thing stopping you is yourself. Once you get past your own mental barrier, you can make changes in your daily habits to eliminate things that don’t work for you. 

 

Reward yourself.

 

You probably accomplish more than you think. Reward yourself with something that makes you feel good. Doing this will positively impact you mentally and act as an incentive for you to continue to make achievements. Choosing the right reward will make the job more enjoyable and give you the strength you need to progress even further. Treat yourself, you deserve it.
